FLW: Master Architect of Meereen?

I’m a fan of Frank Lloyd Wright and “Game of Thrones.”

I’ve visited many of Wright’s homes and commercial buildings: Fallingwater, Kentuck Knob, Grady Gammage Auditorium (campus of Arizona State University, Tempe, AZ), and many more.

When I got hooked on “Game of Thrones,” I started seeing Wrightian-inspired interiors in the Great Pyramid of Meereen (Season 4). I wanted to find out if the designer of these interiors is directly influenced by Wright.

I contacted Deborah Riley, BAFTA-award winning production designer of “Game of Thrones,” and she generously consented to do an interview. A link to the interview is below, along with photos of some of the interiors that suggest the Wright influence (all photos shared with permission of HBO). I hope you like the interview!

“Architecture is for the young. If our teenagers don’t get architecture — if they are not inspired, (then) we won’t have the architecture that we must have if this country is going to be beautiful.” Frank Lloyd Wright
